Jean-Pierre Gaussen and his wife Julia began their life of winemaking in the early 1960s, establishing themselves with only one hectare of vines in the heart of Bandol. Jean-Pierre told us that it was Julia who did most of the heavy lifting in the vineyards, back in the day. His love for her is tangible, and we were very sad to hear of her passing in 2023 after a long illness.
Buying a parcel at a time, they eventually grew their holdings to 12 hectares of the highest reputation in the Bandol AOC, their daughter Mireille working beside them. The vines have always been farmed traditionally without the use of pesticides or herbicides. The wines are vinified in a natural stone cave where the temperature remains well regulated. The grapes are 100% de-stemmed and moved through the cellar using gravity.
