Alfredo Apolloni, a first generation Italian-American, spent much of his childhood visiting the old country and working in the vineyards near the Adriatic coast that had been part of his extended family for more than 150 years. In 1999, just after the birth of their first child, he and his wife Laurine relocated from the Midwest to the West Coast, purchasing a 62 acre property located in the farthest northern corner of the Willamette Valley in Oregon. At the time, there were only five acres of vines planted on the property; they have since established forty additional acres of vineyards.
Their location, just east of the Oregon coast, is in the Tualatin Hills AVA which was established in 2020 to reflect the distinct climate and soils in the upland hills of the Tualatin River watershed, at elevations ranging between 200 and 1,000 feet. The soils are known as Loess – volcanic mixed with basalt, which were deposited by the Missoula Floods 12,000 years ago.
